New Year
January arrives like a blank page begging
for promises we'll break by February—
but this year I'm not bargaining with time.
No resolutions wrapped in shame and shoulds,
just the quiet knowing of what I've already changed:
the kits unbound, the dolls curated down,
the screen released, the chair reclaimed as mine.
The new year finds me halfway home already,
walking steady through the winter dark
toward a life I'm building, not just wishing for.
